Implementation seems to be a mystery despite many people alleging to be well versed in it. Not only small projects/ companies but also big corporates are failing even after having taken on board consultants at an astronomical costs to implement. Hereunder are some of the reasons for failure:
1- Many familiarize themselves on the EVM during a preparation to write exams
2- During preparation, it gets taught “WHAT IT IS” and how to use the formulas to only pass the exams !
3- Many Planners who become a Planner through learning a Software package, believe it is a Cost Management tool only, therefore they do not attempt to thoroughly learn it.
4- Many fail to establish/determine the data source
5- Etc.
Although many corporates and Management companies do know that running projects without EVM costs them exorbitant amounts of money, they are still reluctant to hear the reasons for the failure.
EVM is a simple system that has only 3 primary variables but is still a mystery as regards implementation!
